UK metal titans SYLOSIS kicked off their first-ever Australian headline tour in Perth on Tuesday night, with a blistering set that proved why they’ve been a driving force in modern metal. Joining them were Canadian deathcore juggernauts ANGELMAKER, delivering their signature dual-vocal brutality and Melbourne’s own LUNE, who wasted no time igniting the crowd.

LUNE kicked off proceedings with energy and intensity, showcasing their brand of metalcore to the early punters at Magnet House. From the moment frontman Nathaniel Smith shouted, "are you ready to have the best f***ing night of your lives?" the audience complied following his commands. From moments of arms swaying left and right to circle pits erupting as drummer Harrison Mills began blasting, it was clear why these up and comers were selected to be part of this tour. Along with the plentiful doses of precise pinch harmonics, singalongs, breakdowns and blasts, the band even conjured a wall of death, with Nathaniel warning, "you have about 10 seconds to get somewhere safe" heightening the anticipation. This was a high-octane set, perfectly warming up the crowd for the night ahead.

ANGELMAKER took to the stage next, marking the band’s first day and debut performance in Australia, providing the crowd with an unrelenting display of deathcore brutality. The stage filled with their seven-member lineup, including two vocalists and three guitarists, creating a heavy wall of sound. Right from the get-go, both vocalists, Casey Tyson-Pearce and Ian Bearer, delivered razor sharp pig squeals and screeching highs, while their groove-heavy breakdowns had the crowd headbanging and primed for chaos. The energy was palpable as Casey shouted, “let’s see you f***ing bounce Perth,” sparking relentless pitting and circle pits across the floor. Bass player, Cole Rideout's birthday was also celebrated on stage with a ‘shoey’, adding an extra layer of wild fun. Closing out the set with fan favourite 'Leech' as Casey made his way down to the barrier as fans swarmed around him shouting the words back at him.

SYLOSIS' first headlining set in Australia kicked off with the track 'Empty Prophets', significantly bringing up the night's intensity. Frontman Josh Middleton commanded the crowd, "I need to see a circle pit as big as this room" and the room instantly complied as the opening riff of 'I Sever' ignited the crowd. Throughout the set, there were moments aplenty where the entire crowd were clapping along, throwing their fists in the air or banging their heads as instructed. 'Servitude' was a great example of the latter as heaviness was brought in spades. Josh’s guitar leads were flawless, delivering every note with precision and the band sounded incredibly tight, like I was listening to their studio albums with the added raw energy of a live show.

Josh expressed his surprise at the enthusiastic turnout, admitting, “we didn’t know what to expect” after their 12 year absence, last visiting Australia for Soundwave 2013. Despite the long break, they were welcomed by a fairly full room, with everyone clearly there as fans. Ali Richardson's drumming was also impeccable with not a single beat missed, locking in tightly with bassist Ben Thomas, and not to mention Conor Marshall playing each riff and lead perfectly whilst headbanging and ‘milling the entire time. They closed their set with 'Deadwood,' which included not one, but two wall of deaths. SYLOSIS delivered an absolutely crushing performance at Magnet House in Perth on their first-ever Australian headlining tour, and we hope they will be back very soon.
